Hi, I’m Megan —
Founder and Clinical Director at DBT HQ
I’m a licensed clinical social worker with a passion for helping people get unstuck, so they can get out there and live more fulfilling lives.
I specialize in behavioral therapy, specifically Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a structured, skills-based approach that’s backed by research and built for real life.
Families and individuals usually come to us when they’re dealing with some degree of disconnection — everything from anxiety and depression to eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, suicidality, and emotional chaos in general.
Some have tried therapy before. Some are trying it for the first time. All of them are looking for something that’s more than talk.
My Background
I’ve spent the last decade helping people learn how to feel their feelings without being ruled by them.
I earned my B.S. in Psychology from Michigan State University, and completed my MSW from the Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW) at Columbia University. There, I was accepted into the year-long Dialectical Behavior Training Program and Lab — the only program of its kind in a school that was largely devoted to social work.
Over the next year, I received intensive training in DBT through Behavioral Tech, and completed a clinical internship at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens, New York.
After completing that program, I went on to practice comprehensive DBT and a multitude of behavioral therapies for several years at practices around New Jersey and New York serving adolescents, adults, and families. Now, I’m excited to be returning home to the Detroit area to found DBT HQ.
My Approach
Behavioral therapy is a collaborative, action-driven process — and yes, there will be homework.
My approach is direct and compassionate. But I’m also not going to nod politely and validate everything you say week after week.
Together, we’ll build practical skills for managing distress, regulating emotions, improving relationships, and navigating life in a way that feels more intentional and less overwhelming.
It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. And you don’t have to do it alone.

Let’s get to know each other! This quick intro call will help us see whether DBT HQ is the right fit for you and your family. If it is, we can go ahead and schedule the initial assessment.
Duration: 15 minutes
-
After our first call, we’ll schedule the initial assessment to get into the nitty gritty details so we can develop a treatment plan that can deliver on your needs and help you achieve your goals.
-
The frequency of individual sessions is determined when we complete the initial assessment. Individual sessions typically occur on a weekly or bimonthly basis with the goal to gradually decrease the frequency as progress takes shape.
If you’re a resident of Michigan, these sessions can be in-person or virtual. If you’re a resident of New Jersey or New York, our sessions will primarily be virtual.
Duration: 50 minutes
-
These sessions are specifically designed to help parents build the skills and understand their own patterns of behavior to build confidence and help your child based on their unique needs.
Duration: 50 minutes
-
Family Sessions are structured to help your family develop effective communication skills, set limits, and develop heathy attachments in the context of your family’s unique culture and values.
Duration: 50, 75, or 90 minutes

This isn’t group therapy. It’s structured like a class. Patients learn and practice concrete skills across four modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
Multifamily Group brings multiple families together to learn skills across five modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, Walking the Middle Path, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The group setting allows families to share and learn from each other’s unique experiences and normalize the dilemmas many families face.
Duration: 75 minutes
-
Collateral Sessions involve the extra efforts we’ll be putting in to provide the most comprehensive treatment plan. This could include calls with psychiatrists, schools, pediatricians, and more.
Duration: 15 minute increments

We love sharing our knowledge and helping others find the treatments that are right for them.

Payment & Insurance
A few things to know before we get started.
DBT HQ is an out-of-network provider, which means we don’t bill insurance directly.
But that doesn’t mean you’re on your own.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1:
You pay at the time
of service. We accept
most major credit
cards and HSAs.
Step 2:
We provide a
detailed superbill
(a receipt with all
the right codes).
Step 3:
You submit it to
your insurance for
out-of-network
reimbursement.
Many clients receive partial reimbursement—some, depending on their plan, get most of it back.
FAQs
-
In some cases, we may be able to request a Single Case Agreement with your insurance provider. This is a formal request for them to cover therapy with DBT HQ at their in-network rate due to the specialized nature of our treatment and training. We help make the case. You still pay up front, but your insurance may reimburse you as if we were in-network.
It’s more doable than it sounds—and we’re happy to help walk you through it.
If you have questions about your plan or whether this might apply to you, just reach out. We’ll do our best to demystify the process (and spare you the insurance runaround).
